RDA注册（RDA Registry）日前（2021-2-24）发布了新RDA中标注为不推荐使用（软弃用）的元素清单：

软弃用元素共91个，均为原RDA遗留元素，据称因实施《IFLA图书馆参考模型》（LRM）而成为冗余或不必要，在新RDA中建议有交替元素。
发布的清单为软弃用元素与替代元素的对照（对齐）形式。在RDA工具包中，可以通过查询“The following option is recommended”查找到这些元素。
目前这些元素均为官方元素，仍然可用。但RSC技术工作组将在不久审查这些元素，以确定保留还是永久弃用。因此Gordon Dunsire认为政策声明和应用配置文件宜尽可能避免使用，这样如果RSC决定完全弃用并将其从工具包中删除的话，就不必对数据进行处理。
从清单看，基本上改用上位元素，即用宽泛元素代替，从某种程度上降低了专指度。但因为多是描述性或等同（并列名称），对新RDA追求的机器可操作不会有什么负面影响。
涉及内容表达、载体表现、单件和命名四大类，大致可分为如下4种情况：
- 具体附注入大类附注，如：
- details of cartographic content 入 内容表达附注 note on expression
- note on dimensions of item 等入单件附注 note on item
- note on carrier 入载体表现附注 note on manifestation
- 细节（details of …）入上位，如：
- 内容表达 details of duration 直接用 duration
- 载体表现 details of layout 直接用 layout
- 不细分，如：
- 内容表达 scale of still image or three-dimensional form 入 scale，不区分二维三维
- 载体表现 applied material 入 material，不区分材料用途
- 载体表现 copyright date 入 manifestation copyright statement，不细分
- 不区分并列名称，如：
- 载体表现 parallel name of distributor 入 name of distributor
- 命名 parallel name of distributor of 入 name of distributor of（上述元素的逆元素）
- 另外，有一个未指定替代元素：
- 内容表达 note on changes in content characteristics，说明“包含在历时性作品指引中”
