书目控制未来工作组：关注2007年11月

    美国国会图书馆(LC)近日成立了“书目控制未来工作组”(Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control)，将于2007年11月提出相关建议。12月11日工作组网站正式开通。

    职责(Charge)不长，似乎很难译，好象也是第一次看到Charge一词用在这种场合：

The charge of the Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic control is to:
Present findings on how bibliographic control and other descriptive practices can effectively support management of and access to library materials in the evolving information and technology environment
Recommend ways in which the library community can collectively move toward achieving this vision
Advise the Library of Congress on its role and priorities

    工作组共14位成员，网站上的照片只有12位，不知缺席的是哪2位。
    主席是北卡州大学Chapel Hill校区信息与图书馆学研究生院的José-Marie Griffiths，成员除图书馆界相关专业协会方面的代表外，还有Google的Daniel Clancy，微软的Jay Girotto，CNI的Clifford A. Lynch，以及OCLC的Lorcan Dempsey。记得代表专业图书馆协会的Gary Price在今年早些时候开始任职于Ask.com。如此算来，图书馆界之外的成员占有相当比例。
    首次会议已于11月2-3日在LC举行，接下来还要在不同地区开三次会。最终他们会就书目控制向LC提出什么样的建议？值得关注。
